All applicants must complete the online North Carolina Residency Determination Service (RDS) questionnaire. Applicants will be provided a Residency Certification Number (RCN) which is a required field on the SCC Application.

Have the following items available before proceeding to the NC Residency Website:

• NC Driver License/NC ID
• Social Security Number
• Your tax information and/or your parents tax information, if you are under 25 years old
• Vehicle License & Registration Information
• Military Documentation (Benefits info or DD214)
• Foreign/Immigrant Documents

Once you have completed your Residency Determination you will then need to complete 91ÇÑ×Ó application at . You will need to enter your Residency Certification Number (RCN) from Step 1 to complete your application.

Please allow 3 business days for your application to be processed once you have submitted it.

You will not be able to submit your application until you have completed all of the required fields. This will be evident by the check marks beside each section. Please note, the social security number field is not required, however, we cannot process your application without it.

You can apply for federal and state grants by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This may take up to 2 weeks to process and varies with each student.

Be sure to list 91ÇÑ×Ó in the college section of the FAFSA. Stanly Community College's Federal School Code for the FAFSA is 011194.

In addition to completing the FAFSA, students are also welcome to apply for scholarships. At SCC, we offer a variety of scholarships, awarded on the basis of academic or other achievement. Explore the different scholarship options below:

All students receive an online account while attending SCC. Your SCC username and password will be used for all four accounts:

Canvas: Online Learning Environment
Self-Service: Registration, Academic, and Financial Aid Information
SCC E-Mail: Online Communication
MyPage: Customized Advisor/Coach Information/ Alerts, Academic Schedule, and more

You can find your SCC username by going to /whats-my-username

You will be brought to the page shown below. Enter in your first and last name, and either your SSN or 7-digit student ID number.

WHen you click "Submit" you will be brought back to a page that lists your student username and student email address. You can use this email address for our SCC services such as your student Gmail, Canvas, and Self-Service.

Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds security to your SCC student account by adding an extra verification step to protect your identity and information. 

After you register, you will be able to add a safe and secure two-step verification method for your SCC student account credentials. You can choose from a range of authentication options (such as phone call, text message, or mobile app notification) to access SCC applications (such as Canvas, Gmail, Self-Service, and more).

Unweighted high school GPA is the primary method of placement into gateway English and Math courses.

Placement testing may be permitted if the student meets any of the following criteria:

• Has earned a HIgh School Equivalency or GED and did not meet the college readiness measures.
• Has graduated from a non-US high school.
• Does not have a valid high school GPA (including those who graduated without successfully completing high school Math 2).
• Has graduated from high school more than 10 years prior to enrollment.
• Has an unweighted high school GPA that is within 0.2 points below one of the GPA thresholds for placement.

Orientation is required for every newly admitted student and provides a great introduction to SCC, college life, and your program of choice. Orientation for curriculum students is currently available in an online format and takes approximately two hours to complete.

To complete orientation online, click the link below, log into Canvas using your SCC username and password, and press the Enroll In Course" button.

For every semester you attend 91ÇÑ×Ó, including your first semester, you must meet with your Success Coach. Your coach has been assigned to you by the college, based on the certificate, diploma or degree you are currently working towards.
